Cloudland Ballroom opened in 1940 and was the venue for balls, concerts, dances, civic events, school and university examinations and rock concerts. With its soaring vaulted arch, it dominated the Bowen Hills skyline until its tragic and illegal demolition in 1982.

The Breakfast Creek Hotel was built 1889 to 1890 and designed in the French Renaissance architectural style. Along with the Spanish Garden steakhouse, it is a favourite Brisbane pub and restaurant.

The Indooroopilly Shoppingtown Playground was our idea of heaven in the seventies. Thanks to the moon landing and space race, lots of rocket ships appeared in Aussie playgrounds.
The Old Museum

The Old Museum was designed in "progressive eclecticism” style. It had exhibition spaces and a concert hall. My favourite was a display of music boxes, a great brass wheel that played a tune or a pianola depending on which button you pressed. My husband loved Mephisto, the WW1 tank, that was captured in 1918 near Villers-Bretonneux.

The Festival Hall, originally known as Brisbane Stadium, was built in 1910. In 1958, the original venue was demolished and reopened as Festival Hall. The largest indoor public venue in Brisbane’s city it hosted hundreds of concerts over forty years. My first concert there was The Ramones in 1980.
